PDC Online

Following the success of the transfer of our courses to an online format, The Northern School is now running a complete online Permaculture Design Course, which extends the excellent support and community created in the classroom into a safe and socially distanced format. This full Permaculture Design course began on Saturday 8th August 2020 and it continues every couple of weeks into 2021. The course is led by Angus Soutar who is certificated internationally by the Permaculture Research Institute.

Delivered online, via live video conferencing, the course also provides access to a virtual learning environment to consolidate and expand learning. Regular Q&A sessions with tutors on Zoom are also enhanced by group chats and discussions between sessions. Booking and further info is available here.

Classroom PDC at The Parsonage

Unfortunately, The Parsonage cannot safely provide accommodation for us at the moment. In any case, our coronavirus policy states that we have abandoned the idea of indoor meetings for the rest of this year. The situation remains under review and we will make a further announcement as soon as we can. You can still register your interest here. In the meantime, if you would like to join the online course, you also have the option of continuing in the classroom once it is safe to do so.

Classroom PDC at Manchester Road, Bury

We are planning to start the next course at Manchester Road Community Centre on the 13th February 2021, running one session each month until January 2022. The venue is well suited for socially distanced activities, as it has a large hall with plenty of space inside, and some outside space we can use when the weather permits. More details of how to register your interest for this course will be available soon.

More about the Permaculture Design Certificate Course (PDC)

The Northern School of Permaculture delivers, amongst other things, the Permaculture Design Certificate Course (PDC). This is open to anyone who wants to create a sane and safe future for themselves, their friends and their families. The course is based on the pioneering work of Bill Mollison and follows the international curriculum of 72 course hours, as originally designed by Bill himself. Our lead trainer is Angus Soutar who has over 25 years experience of practising and teaching permaculture design. Angus is accredited internationally by the Permaculture Research Institute (PRI).

Introduction to Permaculture Design

Online, starts on 5th September 2020

Intro to permaculture Design

If you are curious about permaculture but are not ready to commit to a full Permaculture Design Course, this online programme is the ideal way to learn about what permaculture has to offer. Over four online sessions we will provide you with an introduction to permaculture design and a basic understanding of how whole systems thinking can be applied when designing sustainably.

By the end of the course you should be aware of essential principles and tools of permaculture design which you can use to facilitate permaculture inspired initiatives in your own life and community. We aim to empower people to create sustainable solutions for themselves and with others rather than simply follow the latest trends. Find out more here.

Ecological Gardens Design Course

Eco Gardens Design Course

The Ecological Gardens Design Course is suitable for students who are new to permaculture design and for students who have completed Permaculture Design Courses. Due to the current situation, the course is moving into a blended learning format, and for this reason, the start of the next course has been postponed until early 2021. We will be including outdoor sessions as well as using online tools to build skills in designing Ecological Gardens. This course runs over eight sessions in which participants will be guided step by step on the journey to accomplish a final design with a plan to create a dream green space. Booking and further information about the course can be found here.
