In this issue, we have an update from Asmelash Dagne and reports from Angus Soutar on the PDC's in Broadbottom, Bury and at Todmorden.
I was back in Germany for agriculture Alumni workshops. The focus was on transformation of tropical agriculture and paradigm shift. Looking at best practice and traditional knowledge for creating resilience for small scale farmers. I also conducted two workshops.

Editor's note: It has been four years since Asmelash visited us and gained his diploma from our North Britain Institute. He is in demand as a permaculture trainer and energy consultant in Ethiopia and in Germany. You can contact him through the Northern School alumni telegram group. | |
The main road outside the Centre is usually streaming with traffic as it rushes from Prestwich through to Bury town centre. Once off the road, however, the suburban environment throws up many surprises and there is layer upon layer of history covering the wonderful geography of this corner of the world where the River Roche meets the Irwell.
We are grateful to the small team at the Centre: Jack, Paul, Mike and supporters who keep the wondeful old building alive so we can enjoy the calm studio space. It seems to stimulate our wide-ranging discussions and its original purpose as a school seems to stimulate our learning.
As we have at Bury, there is some pleasure in working at "Tod College". It's a well-designed, purpose-built study space. Todmorden Community Hub is proving a great venue and it's good to feel part of a community.
This issue carries tributes to Saleema Imam who died peacefully on the 26th of August after a short illness. Please see our Obituary section.
There will be a memorial service and celebration for Saleema at 2.00 pm on Saturday 25th November at Highfield Trinity Church, London Road, Shefield S2 4UR, and afterwards at the Church Hall (bring food to share).
We invite you to send in reports and articles for publication, no matter how short. A quick message is enough to prompt us to put in a line under "News in brief".
